Драма по мотивам повести М.Коцюбинского. 1730-е годы. По воле пана крепостную крестьянку Соломию выдают замуж за гайдука. Ее возлюбленный бежит за Дунай, а вслед за ним из-под венца бежит и Соломия. Шальная пуля ранит Остапа – и теперь они вынуждены долгие дни скрываться в камышах, пока беглецов не подберут цыгане. И вновь завяжется неравный бой, погибнут Соломия, но придет время – и старый Остап поведает людям историю своей не угасшей любви…
